About Camberley CAB

The Aims:

To ensure that individuals do not suffer through a lack of knowledge of their rights, responsibilities or services available, or through an inability to express their needs effectively. Equally, we aim to exercise a positive influence on the development of Social Policy, both national and locally.

The Service:

Provides and relates efficient and effective interpretation of any part of the extremely comprehensive information system, which is supplied and updated by CITIZENS ADVICE nationally. Our service is:

FREE, CONFIDENTIAL, IMPARTIAL and INDEPENDENT

Offered to everyone without exception.

The People:

All our Advisers are unpaid volunteers who give their time to help their fellow citizens. They are supported by the Bureau Management Team - a Manager and two Deputy Managers who are part-time employees. Additional support is provided by our team of volunteer Administration workers.

We also have access to the national organisation's consultants, local solicitors and other relevant contacts.

Recruitment:

We always seek more volunteers for various tasks, including training as an adviser, helping with administration or joining the Board of Trustees. If you would like to offer your time, please contact the Manager.

The Work:

The workload is continually increasing and therefore updated procedures are imposed, necessitating further subject-based training on a regular basis. This is indicated due to the fact that life today and the issues raised are becoming far more complex.

Social Policy:

The Social Policy aspect enables the Bureau to actively seek to change and improve our society by providing evidence of situations, perhaps injustices, whilst ensuring complete client anonymity and confidentiality at all times. Bureaux assist CITIZENS ADVICE and their pro-active procedures to submit Evidence Reports to Government Departments, Parliamentary Representatives and the relevant organisations. Many of these reports have certainly affected change of government policies. This proves how the service and our clients are so important.

The Organisation

Camberley CAB is a member of the national network of bureaux.

The Bureau is run by a Board of Trustees, made up of local people interested in our service. We are a registered charity and limited company and hold a public meeting once a year when members of the Board are elected.
